Reflective learning
In this lecture we looked at different types of organisations and their structures a well as how they are influenced by IT techniques. We also looked at Mintzberg's 5 types of organisational structures which ranged from start-up businesses by entrepreneurs to bureaucracy's such as hospitals and law firms. There were also examples of how IT would be used daily in the business for processes such as pay rolls for the employees. There are advantages to using IT in a business such as saving time and money and being able to complete more than one task at the same time.
Group work
In our groups, we had made the final changes to our presentation and we have decided to film after the break so that we would know the information off by heart and will not have to rely on noted while we are recording. We had originally planned to film this week and had someone to film us, however the timing did not work out for some members. We are also ahead with our coursework so we do not have to worry about finishing our work on time.
Seminar
In the seminar, we looked at Pivot Tables; these are used to present reports of data and the values can be changed according to what is selected in the drop down boxes. We went through an example pivot table that showed the marks of students for different subjects. Depending on which student was shown in the spreadsheet, the data would change to show all of their marks for each subject as well as the average and total scores for each month. These tables are helpful in showing a lot of data in an organised way that is easy to read, so no time would be wasted in looking for specific information in a large report.
