Reflective learning
In the fourth lecture for Management and Information systems, we learned about how databases and different information systems are used within a business. The main topic that we discussed in the lecture was to understand the use and importance of business intelligence and why different organisations would need this. We discussed about the internal and external impacts of it as well as any effects it would have in the future of the business. We also discussed different types of databases and what they are specifically used for within the business.
Seminar
We received a case study at the beginning of the seminar about YouTube videos and after reading it we had to answer questions about what types of videos we watched on the platform as well as how it be beneficial to a business and if there any negative effects it could have on a business. In the seminar we continued to fill out spreadsheets on Microsoft Excel focusing on the relevant formulas to use to prevent the process from becoming too time consuming. I had already had some prior use of Microsoft Excel so the format of the programme was not difficult for me to understand and I had already used formulas in a spreadsheet before. We also made sure that we knew what the correct formulas would be for working out sales information and other pieces of data.
Teamwork
Outside of seminar and lecture hours, the group had met up to discuss the work we had done separately and how we would continue on from the work as a group. I had previously listened to an audio recording of an interview with a business owner and had written my own ideas of how I think the business could be improved by using IT solutions. Each member of the group has also written their own solutions so, our next step as a group is to gather all the information together and write it up in a report.
